Falcon Chess Club
The Falcon Chess Club consist of close to 100 students from grades 3-5, ranging in skill from beginner to advanced. Some students are learning the basics of the game while others are challenging friends to sharpen their skills.
Chess is a game of strategy. Research shows playing chess can actually change areas of the brain that focus on problem solving and recognition. This game involves patience, perseverance, and attention to detail which helps the kids become better students and life long learners.
In the spring we hold a Fairmont chess tournament between the 4th and 5th graders. The top 12-16 students advance to the regional tournament hosted by Pasadena ISD. At the last regional tournament, the Fairmont 5th graders WON and brought back a FIRST PLACE TROPHY!
Falcon Chess Club meets every other Monday from 3:00-3:45.
